This session will discuss the importance of job retention.  Once someone you support has become employed the work is not done.  As articulated by both the PSR literature and the disability field supporting a person to be successful in the areas of wellness and recovery once employed is essential.  Long term benefits can be experienced if you are able to take steps to help ensure an individual is able to maintain their employment despite possible ups and downs in their mental health.  We will look at some areas of focus and attention for those in a supportive role with regards to a new employee in a job.

Session Objectives:

  1. Outline and identify key issues regarding job retention and possible support needs.
  2. Understand the important roles each person on the support team plays in supporting long term job retention.
  3. Review some common pitfalls when it comes to maintaining employment for people living with mental health issues.
  4. Hear about an example of successful job retention through a case study.
